Hello All. I am interested in playing WoW, but I really don't know where to begin. I'll explain myself.

Not too long ago I bought the 14-day trial of the game, and I'm going to install it tomorrow. However, the biggest question I'm sure most new WoW players ask themselves is: "Which class should I be?" So...which class should I be? I did one of those lame quizzes on another phishing site (please don't ask, I still have that "dirty feeling"), and it suggested I play as a Rogue. From what my WoW friends told me, a large percentage of people play as Rogues anyway. I was hoping that lame quiz would suggest a class that is rarely played.

Just so you all know, I am not an MMORPG noob. I played MapleStory for quite a while, and I want to play something more grown-up.

So...since my question is related to character class, please help me with your suggestions based upon my preferences.
1) I want to be a class that can level quickly;
2) I want to be able to take a beating and not die from a scratch, but I don't want to be a "tank" or a "damage dealer" exlusively;
3) I want to be unique, but I'll pick something more generalized if that class honors the first two criteria.

What do you all suggest? Should I be a Rogue, or something different. If I really like this trial I'll probably play this game on a regular basis if/when I get a new laptop. Thank you for your time and help.

~~Nick

Server/Realm (US/EU): Whisperwind (US)
Racial starting area: Blood Elf
Your character: Isobila, riding on an olive raptor
How long will you be on: Idealistically, until the charter is full. Perhaps a bit more likely, another hour and a half or so.
Guild name: Strange Brew

Phew, grinding for signatures is thirsty work! If you could help me out, I'd be much obliged!

Edit: Just need two more! And, since WoW freezes when I switch windows, please allow me a moment to reconnect myself. /blush. Thanks so much to all who have already signed! :) Got a full charter! Thank you so much to all who signed for making it so quick and easy! You're all the best! :D

I have looked through the tags but I couldn't find it, perhaps you can help me?

I'm looking for an addon that automatically switches tracking. I've tried Track-o-matique and zzHunter and neither actually work. I'd actually swear zzHunter was actively trolling me, because it would switch my tracking to utterly irrelevant things, even when I'd told it to be disabled.

Do you guys know of one that does currently work?

Thanks.

I have a real quick request here: can anyone throw out some names of some PvE servers with reasonably high/active Horde populations? I know PvE server pops can skew pretty heavily toward Alliance, and I could probably find the info I want slogging through census site data, but if anyone can offer up some suggestions off the top of their head I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to turn off the fog effect in ICC? I used two commands that gets rid of shadows and the "mist" at Hrogthar's landing but it didn't do anything for the fog inside ICC. It kills my FPS a lot and I've been looking for ways to get it disabled. I have all my settings at minimum with a lot of options turned off. Help appreciated.

Hello everyone! It's your friendly neighborhood moderator, [info]neuroxin, here and I'd like to have a short talk with all of you.

The new LFG system has certainly created opportunity for lots of good and bad group experience posts! It has been pointed out to me that many of our posts lately have been angry rants about bad players. These are unfortunately often fraught with generalizations about classes and class roles and those that play them. Quite frequently of late I've been contacted personally about particular posts and comments.

I'd like to remind everyone about our community rules, particularly Rule 4, and about one of our sister communities, [info]dear_gnome. This is not to suggest that you shouldn't continue posting about your LFG experiences here, not by any means. But if your post seems to appropriately begin with "Dear [Generalized Player Group] then it's likely to belong more appropriately on [info]dear_gnome. Please just be more mindful of your tone and to whom you're directing your rant. Lately several posts have fallen into the category of trolls and flamebait these posts are being removed and will continue to be.

Lastly, I'd like to remind everyone that [info]worldofwarcraft moderation needs your help in identifying problem posts and comments. My contact information is on the community userinfo page so I'd like it if everyone felt free not to hesitate in contacting me.

Thanks!

So, the other day I was in GAME (store that sells...games? xD) stocking up on game time and I couldn't find the WoWgametime cards. So, naturally being lazy, instead of manually searching I promptly went to the closest (male) employee to ask 'OMG.WHERE.THE.HELL.IS.GAME.TIME.I.NEED.IT.NAU.' to get the reply 'We don't have any in, tell your boyfriend or brother that some more will be in on monday'

What.
The.
Hell.

I mean, I've gotten stick for 'being a girl gamer lolz' in-game but IRL really takes the biscuit tbh ;D

Any of you guys had a similar experience? :p

Edit: Sorry for bad choice of words :}

So I was on my 71 blood elf paladin the other night doing dungeons and leveling when i got this super angry tell.
"Why the f**k are you undercutting leather so badly???"
I was a little shocked to say the least and I calmly replied,
"Because I had leftover leather from my BS and I just wanted to sell it off. Sheesh relax."

He continued to swear at me and tell me how I am ruining the market for leather (and for the love of all that is good, I only sold a stack of 12 heavy leather for a few gold under what everyone else was selling it for.)

The rest of my rant follows )

I have been horribly sick and just extra miserable feeling since Christmas night. A sudden cold that knocked me off my feet. So much so, I haven't been able to play the game because it hurts to keep my eyes open. I only hopped online today to run my random daily to accrue the much needed Frost emblems and was thrown head-first into UP. Between my hacking and nose-blowing, I managed to dps my way through the bosses, a little miffed that my PUG groupies just about let me die under the Ritual of the Sword because they were more worried about killing Svala than her little minions. While running through the gauntlet, I abandoned my post to pour myself a cup of tea. I needed to add my little whisky/lemon/honey concoction, but Skadi dropped from the sky and needed his ass whooped.

Finished that up and walked away as they were looting. Something in me told me to go back, though. And I did, just in time for that few second lag to drop [Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake]. I ooohed and aaahed and immediately hit Need. And we waited. And waited. Someone wasn't clicking their button.

Then BAM! )

Okay ladies (and men), ever since coming to this community I've come across a few shippers, some of them waving flags for particular pairings that I've always found a bit bizarre, but intriguing at least.

Therefore, post your favourite pairings/threesomes/etc and give reasons for why these couples just make you go awwwww.

For me? )

Hey! I haven't posted here in a little while, but for the next week there's some free(er) time on the horizon, and it seems like a good time to post about an open commission spot. Unfortunately I can't do more than one, but if you think you might be interested, examples under the cut! )

Hi, i'm a warrior tank. I have to hit things before you to insure that I get aggro so you don't have to stress the healer out while you song and dance kite things as if you say.."I don't need your silly logic in dungeons, I can just solo everything"

Great sir, if thats the case why did you bother joining a dungeon? Solo the instance yourself.

and when I say.."I'm not going to chase mobs you attack before i get to it.." and your response is.."thats fine.."

then proceed to multishot EVERYTHING BEFORE I GET THE FIRST HIT OFF.

Does not make me happy.

P.S. Dear Mr DK crybaby QQ butthurt pants. Don't ask to be booted from a Pit of Saron group..and I quote.."There is competition for the axe, and I'd rather not save myself to an instance where im not guaranteed the axe if it drops"..

You make me want to punch you in the face with really large shards of glass inbetween my fist. Look, I understand wanting to get gear, and especially if its easy...but WHY should we give you the benefit of not having a deserter buff just because you don't want to have to roll against anyone.

You could spend all day looking for a group with a nonplatewearer. and there's no guarantee a warrior/pally tank wouldn't roll against you so now your looking for a druid tank with no 2h melee dps. why not just sit in lfg channel and go.."QQ DK looking for group PoS, no 2h dpsers plz kthx" and see the absurd reaction to your request.

/Rant Off

PUGs
So when I was on my paladin today I was seriously considering if I should just give her up. I felt like I was not progressing on her, and didn't know what I wanted to do with her.

I started her off as tank but found that I failed at it. I wasn't used to being so up close with the mobs (I play a mage and a priest usually) and I was always stressed out about not keeping aggro, or having some dps pull mobs off. Eventually I decided to make her holy and work on having a second healing since I enjoy healing. (Yes, it's true, some of us love healing.)

tl;dr )
I felt really lousy at my poor paladin healing skills, but decided to try pug-healing a dungeon for practice. Ended up with a really wonderful group who were very encouraging and kind, making me feel much better and more confident about paladin healing. Good PUG groups do exist! <D

Does anyone here use two majorly different UIs, depending on the character?

Right now, I love my UI... for my mage. It's perfect, I have all the info I want to see, everything is in place, and I don't need to worry about positioning for healing or anything.

But, I have a fledgling druid boomkin/healer and while my current UI works, it's a bit bloated for her tastes. I'd actually like to try an entirely different UI - for example, I use Shadowed Unit Frames currently and they're lovely, but I'd like to try VuhDo on my druid - and that's just the start of it.

So, is it possible to use two completely different sets of addons, depending on the character? There's lots of addons that I use on my mage that I'd like my druid's profile to ignore completely, and vice-versa.

My little pally is a miner/JC'er (might be taking JC to BS- She isn't far in and I don't know the endgame benefits to either, really.) and I am taking suggestions on what to wear when I am RPing after she's been caught working hard at the forge. I'm thinking maybe the sleeveless t-shirt ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18231 )and..something? Obviously I don't want fancy, I'm just. Not certain. Can't seem to get the model viewer working, either.

Also, belf last names. I had one for her, but forgot since I've had her for about four or five months and this is the first time I've gotten around to RPing with her. Everything I can think of is taken from lore - even my unloved mage's last name, which I didn't realize at the time (http://www.wowwiki.com/Sunblade) or just doesn't flow well. Her name is Ligeia (Pronounced Le-gaia) and I'm tearing out my hair! How do you RP ladies find last names for your blood elfs without taking it from lore or doing the foreign names that people on my server seem to like (De la Vega, du Soliel)?

Also: Why is Moon Guard down AGAIN!?

When do you ladies report a gold seller? I have been bugged by three toons in short succession this morning with typical gold seller phrases of "Hey, are you there?" and the like. All level ones, all with highly suspicious names. Really, I wanted to report them right then and there, as I was almost certain that they were about to offer me gold and my anti-social tired self could not be bothered doing the usual "Oh, yes? How can I help you?" conversation to get them to actually offer me gold (I usually click on the line where they offer me "the goods" to report them, so the GM has the proof right there when they check my complaint).

I mean, they don't break the TOS by just asking me if I am there in bad English, on a level one toon in the starting area, with a dodgy name, so strictly speaking I have nothing to report them over. However, after almost two years of playing WoW I can read the signs and know when my gold-seller detection senses are tingling.

What do you say? Just report them and hope someone else has bothered to gather proof that they are breaking the TOS or wait until they have said something that warrants a report?

I hope I make sense. It is early in the morning and my brain is still half asleep >.> Also I am grouchy as apparently I am not allowed to do my dailies in peace today *glares at fourth gold seller asking me if I am there*

So I was in a half-PuG ICC 25 today, and we ended up calling it after the first boss. I was on my resto shaman smashing some meters (it sounds vain, but really the other healers were... average). Anyway, after I left I got this from the raid leader:

[19:23:18] [W From] [--------]: not to be raceist or anything but for a girl you do well. most girls that play wow are fail lol

Racism fail! :D

Tossed myself into an LFG by myself this morning and when I finally got into the dungeon, I discovered one of my fellow pugs was a guildie! What are the odds? Has anyone else had this or something similar happen to them?

Also, is there a way I can disable combat sound effects so all I can hear is the voice acting of the bosses? They say such wonderful things sometimes, but the noise of hitting stuff and pew pew tend to drown it all out.
